Access Google Apps over Internet

Dear Friends,

Access Google Apps over Internet easily

According to reports, Google is unveiling a package of communications and productivity software today, which is aimed at businesses that rely on Microsoft products for those functions.

The package, called Google Apps, features e-mail, calendars, instant messaging, and talk applications, as well as a word processor and a spreadsheet.

And unlike Microsoft's products, which reside on PCs and corporate networks, Google Apps will be delivered as services accessible over the Internet, with Google storing the data, and that will allow businesses to offload some of the cost of managing computers and productivity software.

Speaking on the occasion, Dave Girouard, Vice President and General Manager, Google Enterprise, said that businesses are looking for applications that are simple and intuitive for employees, but that would also offer security, reliability, and manageability. And for corporate technology staff, they think that this will be a very refreshing change.

Google also said that the Google Apps package, which is based on products like Gmail, has been available on free trial since August last year, and is supported by advertising. It has been used by thousands of businesses, educational institutions, and other organizations.

Meanwhile, the company will continue to provide the extended bundle of software free to businesses and educational institutions. However, it will also offer businesses additional e-mail storage and customer support for an annual fee of $50 (Rs 2,250) per user through its fee-based version, called Google Apps Premier Edition.

It is also learnt that Google Apps Premier Edition features application programming interfaces that businesses can use to integrate it with their own applications. It also includes five times more e-mail storage, 10GB per e-mail box, as well as a guarantee that all services will be available 99.9 percent of time with round-the-clock technical support.

Girouard further explained that Google's products were not replacements for Excel or Word, but that for smaller businesses and for certain groups of employees within larger companies, Google Apps could be a substitute for Microsoft's products.
