Business Networking meets Social Networking for movers and shakers in the BPO business

What does one get when one mingles fun, Senior Executives of BPO industry, Bureaucrats, Industrialists in a coffee shop? A new format of social networking called “BPONews Coffee Un-Conference”…

In a first of its kind initiative, BPONews Coffee Un’Conference unraveled a forum to answer the undercurrent brewing in the BPO

industry for long. The participation list read like a virtual who’s who of the BPO industry like … List of Invitees (below).

Friday evening coffee while making/ meeting friends and doing business has hit it off with senior executives in the BPO business. On 26th Oct 07 more than 15 very senior decision makers gathered at an up-market coffee bar in a monthly event kicked off by BPONews. It’s Founder-CEO, Deepak Kapoor said “It is attempt to get together decision makers from the BPO (and allied) businesses to meet once a month over Friday evening coffee. The meeting will serve to network for business as well as discuss problems in the
BPO business while attempting to uncover new areas.”

Deepak Kapoor added “We intend to hold such “UN-CONFERENCEs” in a coffee bar on the THIRD FRIDAY every month. Currently restricted to the NCR region we have plans to spread to at least 3 BPO hubs across India in the next 6 months. Invitees attending from outside NCR have shown a great promise to contribute towards having their own regional
event and have requested us to extend our event to their geographies.

We are excited about the acceptance and the response so far.”
Rakesh Sharma of Quatrro BPO said “The event unraveled a new format of social networking for the executives who are otherwise prone to stress and long hours at work. Business networking seems moving away from formal environments to more relaxed ones. From five-star hotels to golf courses and now to relaxed coffee bars.”

Deepak Kapoor further added “The whole thought is based on creating an environment where people interact in a visibly informal (read relaxed) atmosphere, more as friends. The first event witnessed enthusiastic response and was appreciated by everyone who attended it. Each one felt the need for more interactions of such kind, which would take the industry forward. Even though many people could not make it due to last minute change in their plans, it was expected since invitees keep a busy schedule and travel a lot.

Moving away from the traditional industry forums like seminars and conferences such forums could indeed cater to the boiling issues of this growing industry in a more pragmatic manner. If there is any pressing matter that needs discussion at a certain point then an impromptu discussion is called for. Other than that the forum is left
for making friends and contacts. It is opportune to mention that at least one deal matured at the event venue itself and two were initiated which may take their due course.
