Oracle leads database management market

Oracle has been named as the leading Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) vendor in India and Asia Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ), based on first half 2007 Asia Pacific software revenues by IDC.

According to the IDC’s “Asia/Pacific Semi-Annual Software Tracker, September 2007” report, Oracle is the Asia Pacific market leader with 53 per cent market share, growing 19 per cent year-over-year to reach $373 million in software revenue in first half 2007.

It has strengthened its market share lead by nearly four per cent over its second half 2006 figure of 50 per cent.

The company commands more than double the market share of its nearest competitor in the RDBMS market who has 21 percent. In India, Oracle leads the RDBMS market with 63 per cent market share.

“Oracle has, through a sustained flow of innovation, continued to develop and strengthen its undisputed relational database market share leadership in Asia Pacific,” said SPS Grover, vice president, Technology Sales, Oracle India. “With Oracle Database 11g, we expect to continue revolutionizing the database world.”
