Sony has cancelled its plans to launch social networking service dubbed Room for PlayStation Portable gaming console
. Till date, Room was a closed beta and surprisingly, Sony dropped it off the shelf without giving any reasons. This social networking service allowed users to create avatars, personal spaces or blogs and share with other users.

PlayStation 3 unit sales fell by more than 31% in its fiscal first quarter, as the consumer electronics company joined Nintendo in reporting weak demand for video-game consoles.The PS3 sales slump contributed to Sony's second consecutive quarterly loss, which the company attributed to continued weakness in electronics sales. The company reported a net loss of 37.1 billion yen, or about $386 million, for the quarter ended June 30, compared to a profit of 35 billion yen, or about $366.3 million, in the same period a year ago.

Sony said it will add chat services, Internet telephony and video-to-video communications to its popular PlayStation Portable game unit, an upgrade the Japanese company hopes will transform the PSP into wireless multimedia communications device.
Sony said Wednesday it had struck a four-year deal with British Telecom to provide these and other services on the PSP. The new units are scheduled to be shipped by the end of the year and owners of existing PSPs will eligible to receive an upgrade for these services.

The Xbox 360 processor was designed to give game developers the power that they actually need, in an easy to use form. The Cell processor has impressive streaming floating-point power that is of limited use for games.
The majority of game code is a mixture of integer, floating-point, and vector math, with lots of branches and random memory accesses. This code is best handled by a general purpose CPU with a cache, branch predictor, and vector unit.
