Google (GOOG) reportedly is closer to an agreement to acquire YouTube Inc. for $1.65 billion, according to published reports, and could announce a deal as early as Monday after the closing bell, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times both reported. If Google does complete the agreement, it would be a departure from its existing modus operandi: Spend frugally on bright engineers with a budding technology at their very earliest stages.
