Dell to make products in India next year

Inaugurates its fourth customer contact center in India at Gurgaon

Dell will start manufacturing all its products including desktops and laptops in India by the second half of 2007, the company said

Speaking at the inauguration of its fourth customer contact center in India at Gurgaon (Haryana) today, Dick Hunter, vice-president, customer experience and customer support at Dell, said the products would be manufactured at Sriperumbudur near Chennai.

The company also announced its plans to invest $150 million this fiscal for its various global initiatives including India.

“Dell today employs around 13,000 people in India and in the next couple of years this number will rise to nearly 20,000. The government would provide any assistance to Dell for fuelling this growth,” Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Communications and IT, said.

The 300,000 square-foot customer experience centre at Gurgaon is expected to employ about 1,000 people by the end of this year. Dell has been providing customer support to customers in the United States and Europe from a temporary facility in Gurgaon since April.

The new facility is part of a global Dell customer support network that includes about 25 centers.
