e-learning in the corporate scenario-The demise of classroom learning?

As e-learning sweeps the marketplace and as more and more corporates concentrate on both the subjective as well as objective aspects of e-learning, some important trends are emerging.

More sophisticated, qualitative content not only streamlines processes, but also helps in delivering a more structured approach to the learning paradigm.

The learning-by-doing approach to learning eliminates the gap between theoretical classroom-based study and hands on practice in real life situations.Similarly, problem based learning ensures relevance of skills and expertise gained.
Computer based education hence offsets rival traditional classroom education ,both in effectiveness and cost.

This cost-effective way has made the delivery mechanism of learning independent of classroom infrastructure.Learning can be 24/7 and the availability of Web enabled options has eradicated concerns over differences in platforms and operating systems.Furthermore, these solutions are highly sacalable, with little effort or incremental cost.

Hello Vandana,

Nice post. E-Learning is the way to go. It gives participants an opportunity to engage in a blended learning environment, where they interact with the faculty (either in the classroom or virtually) and then utilize digital resources such as podcasts, videos, text, etc for reflection and better understanding.

Web 2.0 concepts like blogging are being adopted in many classrooms in the west. They promote reflection and conversations among students, both of which help in the learning process. I am not sure if schools in India have started adopting blogging and the web (even Wikipedia is a treasure chest of resources). Any teachers on ITVidya using web 2.0 technologies in their classrooms???

Corporates also stand to benefit tremendously from elearning. They can provide on demand, any time training for their employees.

As most people think, elearning need not elliminate the human teacher. Infact I think it actually augments the teacher, by creating micro mentors throughout the network. Now people can learn a topic from an easily accessible expert in theor network.
