Ruby and Rails Boot Camp with TDD is an interactive workshop for web application developers covering the fundamentals of the Rails framework along with hands-on experience. It is geared especially towards web application developers coming from other programming languages and frameworks such as PHP. It serves as a very good starting point for people getting started to build web application with Rails.

Who are the Trainers?

Sohel Merchant Sohel Merchant has over 8 years of software development experience with over 2 years of experience in writing full-blown ROR applications. He has conducted corporate training in Ruby on Rails at companies like Caneum India Pvt ltd, Gurgaon and Neev Technologies, Bangalore. He has worked with several programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Perl, Ruby and brings with him varied perceptive on how Ruby and Rails makes it much easier to rapidly develop and deploy web applications. Sohel holds a M.S. in Computer Science from University of Maryland, USA.

Abbas K. Sutarwala Abbas K. Sutarwala champions the improvement of programming skills & practices in organizations. He has over 35 years of practical experience with software development as developer, Project Lead, IT Manager, and Faculty. He has taught “Good Programming: Skills & Practices” to reputed companies like T. C. S., Wipro Technologies, and Tata Elxsi Ltd. He authored a book on the same subject which has a Foreword by Dr. F. C. Kohli. His current interests are “Ruby on Rails”, “Test-Driven Development” and “Good Programming Skills”. Abbas holds an M. S. in Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, USA

What Will I Learn?

In this two day intense training workshop you will learn the fundamentals of Ruby and Rails. You will also get practical experience working with Ruby on Rails code. Here is an overview of all the things that would be covered.

DAY ONE

• Ruby on Rails Overview. Why Rails? (a "overview" comparison of Rails with J2EE)
• Ruby language features: Standard types, Data Structures, Classes, objects, methods, variables, inheritance, Access Control, Control structures, Blocks and Iterators, Ruby Gems, Odds and ends
• Rails MVC Framework, Models, Views, Controllers, Scaffolding, Migrations
• Installing Ruby, Rails and MySQL database
• Generating your first Migration.
• Creating controllers, models and using scaffolding to bring a bare bone application to life.

DAY TWO

• Rails Model relationships,Testing, AJAX, Plugins, Deployment, JRuby
• Test-Driven Development
• Developing a "shopping cart" application - specifying the requirements.
• Creating your first controllers, layouts, partials and views.
• Creating a shopping cart using sessions.
• Improving the shoping cart with a touch of AJAX.
• Testing your web application

We have restricted the number of participant to 25. Out of which 10 are reserved for Students/Individuals and 15 for Corporate Participants.
