Computer Society of India, Pune Chapter presents Virtual Observatories : A Paradigm for High Technology and Joint Ventures

Virtual Observatories (VO) are being created to deal with enormous amounts of data which are becoming available in various disciplines, particularly astronomy.

The VO deal with data storage, transfer, management, analysis and Visualization.

Standards, codes and tools for these purposes have been developed through international collaboration.

The Virtual Observatory India project has developed several important Applications and tools, which can be used in many domains outside Science and technology.

The project is a very successful example of long term collaboration between an academic institution and the software industry.

About Prof. Ajit Kembhavi : Prof Ajit obtained his Ph.D from TIFR, Mumbai, and worked there for many years before joining IUCAA as founding member. He is well known for his contributions in theoretical astrophysics and observational astronomy. He is the principal investigator of Virtual Observatory - India project.
