Due to several legal issues with AOL and other things - GAIM finally changed their name.

You forgot to mention that besides the fact that the name was changed, they are finally releaseing GAIM (Pidgin) 2.0 !! A release after 1 year.
There seems to be some unrest about the UI, icons, etc. but lets hope that it performs as well as adimux, which uses libgaim in the backend.
Yes, they are finally going to release v2.0 which has been rolled into several beta version.
I have used GAIM 2.0 Beta 6, it looks promising. Looking forward to this stable release.
