Ganesha and Vidya

Today is Ganesh Chaturthi, a community festival. Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth. Lord Ganesha is also called Vinayak ( knowledgeable ) or Vighneshwer (god to remove obstacles). On this auspisious day, let us take inspiration to be more knowledgable.

Also, It is interesting to note that this festival started as a excuse to networking.

Networking Festival

Bal Gangadhar Tilak aka Lokmanya Tilak, who also gave the popular slogan, Swaraj (Home Rule) is my birthright, promoted the Ganapati celebrations. Besides unitinvg people, one of the major reason to promote this festival was to facilitate networking of the freedom fighters. This festival gave freedom fighters an opportunity to meet and further the freedom movement when the British government illegalised any gatherings, writings and slogans that could incite violence.

There are several websites dedicated to Lord Ganesha, I also managed to find a podcast about Ganesh Chaturthi. Podcast on the story of Ganesha and Ganesh Chaturthi can be listened at Podmasti.com
