Hacking and Cell Phones

Now since everything else has already been hacked, cell phones were the only thing left. As always, whenever a new technology comes, it gets hacked sooner or later. Cellphone hacking is a recently started subject and the first media coverage came when Paris Hilton’s cell phone was hacked.

Mobile hackers have found a flaw in the chip which was placed in the First Generation of GSM Cell phones. However, the 2nd and 3rd generation cell phones are protected from this flaw, but still, as per an estimate 70% of the existing cell phones are based on the 1st Generation of GSM. Another issue is that the black hat hacker must get access to the target cell phone for at least 2 minutes.

Another way which hackers are currently using is, wireless hacking and bluetooth hacking, to get into your cell phone. A hacker just has to move around the target cell phone along with his laptop which is loaded with cellphone hacking softwares. Within minutes, these hackers can collect data from your cell phone , when it is turned on.

What Can Hackers Do?
Unsurprisingly, Hackers can do a number of things with your cellphone, depending upon there intent:

a) Steal cellphone number
A Hacker can access your number through cellphone hacking and later on use it to make phone calls. All the calls made by him, are charged into your accounts.

b) Collect Information
Hackers can connect to your cellphone and download all the critical or important data from your cellphone into there laptops. They can copy details of all your contacts, download all the files inside your cellphone etc.

What can be done?
a) Keep unnecessary services off
When not needed, switch off bluetooth or other wireless connections of your cellphone.

b) Backup
Keep a backup of all the data which you place in your cellphone.

c) Keep an eye on your cellphone and make sure that do not give anyone physical access to your cellphone. However, if its necessary, make sure that its under your supervision.
