Nasscom 2007 : India Leadership Forum

I am glad to be participating in Nasscom 2007, India Leadership Forum being held at Mumbai, India from 7-9 February 2007. The annual of Nasscom seems to be growing in size, scale and participation with each passing year. Shri Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Hon'ble Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Govt. of India, inaugurated the event and his keynote session was folled by Prof. Amartya Sen, Nobel Award Winner.

Will be updating the speech of Shri Maran shortly, but he summed up his talk by saying that having come so far in our IT-BPO journey, we now need to up the ante. There may be a need for us to revisit our export and domestic market goals, and create a case for escalated numbers and higher global market share in the segments where we function. This requires a clsoe and coordinated appraoch by all the stakeholders to ensure that India makes a bigger global impact in the IT sector.

Kiran Karnik, President of Nasscom in his address mentioned that
India is at the edge of a precipice. It can now take off and soar, going ever higher, it can stay where it is; or it can suddenly begin to fall. Giving it wings and confidence is the IT-BPO sector.

Having established India as the back-office of the world and the hub for the global IT services, this sector is now poised to not only grasp emerging opportunities but, indeed, to create them.

Stay tuned in for more updates from Nasscom 2007.
