Need To Promote Gaming in India in a BIG WAY.

Need To Promote Gaming in India in a BIG WAY.
In India we need to promote gaming (as we promote cricket in a big way) It’s no Joke If the industry can actually do nothing like it. May be I am being noisy but this is what I feel and understands.
The size of gaming market in India is around Rs 1,500 crores by 2008. Different reports have different estimates about the current size of the gaming market, but it is likely to be around Rs500 crores for 2006.
But there are some facts which we can understand,
• India’s share in the world gaming market is merely .27%.
• The average age of an Indian gamer is 16 to 25 years and has annual income greater than 500000.
• Only 13.5 % of the Indian Gamers are women.
• There not many companies which actually develop console games in India as it is a risky step.
Wireless gaming in India is growing like world leaders, as they are active since last 3, 4 years but MMOG (Massively Multi-player On-line Games) which actually generate the gamers is very less in India. For a good commercial success people should promote the MMORPG and MMOG as the broadband users are growing rapidly.
In china, the portals like www.sohu.com; www.chinare.com, www.17373.com and online gambling sites are earning great money. If Indian companies can promote online and mobile gambling and MMOG they can surely create the market. And if they have market only then they can sell.

* All the figures I mentioned here are from research organizations. It could be differ also, but the fact is this industry needs a maturity level now.

Indian Gaming Industry

Indian gaming industry will develop only when the organizations involved will start promoting the Cyber Games and Computers as major events.

India still do not have any major event in gaming industry where young population can participate or can relate with.

Gaming is also very costly when youngsters visit cyber cafe just for the purpose of games.

There is need to have consortium involving ISP and game developers and hardware manufacturer to develop awareness.

It will help every one in the industry

I completely agree with Ashish Dude !!!
Let the Games Begin !!!
In fact, why the gaming industry is taking so long to start off is quite a conundrum to me.
I do remember seeing a number of Gaming competitions in the past year and online gaming portals like Zapak, but still, the kind of revenues that the Gaming industry has a potential to generate has not even been fractionally reached.

P.S. Don't even get me started on Open Source Gaming
