According to reports, Reliance Entertainment is the latest to join the online social networking fray with the launch of its 'Big Adda'.
Social networking Web site, 'Big Adda' is currently in 'alpha' testing stage, and hence, available to Internet users on an 'invitation only' basis, Reliance sources say.
Sources add that the Web site actually started in March this year, when it invited users to choose a logo from among 9 to 10 design options. Later on, the site asked users to pick the template they liked best.
'Big Adda' has a Web 2.0 format, and combines the usual 'social networking' structure with features like blog posts, forums, video uploads, and a messaging feature that is more like e-mail.
At 'Big Adda' communities with diverse interests ranging from politics to economics to entertainment will be able to form their own private or public 'addas'.
'Big Adda' will also act as a video sharing site, with a dedicated section for users' videos in different categories. The videos will have a YouTube-like format, and members will be able to rate them and comment on them. There will be video categories in five regional languages including Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, etc.
Company sources say existing users are being encouraged to give their feedback on the Web site, as also contribute newer ideas for further development.
The sources add that the 'beta' launch of 'Big Adda' will likely take place by end of this month or early next month.
