Success factors in e-commerce
Technical and organizational aspects
In many cases, an e-commerce company will survive not only based on its product, but by having a competent management team, good post-sales services, well-organized business structure, network infrastructure and a secured, well-designed website. Such factors include:
Sufficient work done in market research and analysis. E-commerce is not exempt from good business planning and the fundamental laws of supply and demand. Business failure is as much a reality in e-commerce as in any other form of business.
Introduction
At a conservative estimate, B2C e-commerce is set to reach Rs. 2,300 crores by March 2007. But this is just the tip of e-Business in India. If we were to include the less visible B2B segment as well as the e-commerce initiatives of many brick and mortar companies, the figure would be much much larger. E-Business is, therefore, no longer a wish but a reality in India. It is happening here and now.
It is happening because companies large and small have clearly seen its benefits and have either taken the plunge or are testing the waters.
However, while for some having taken the plunge it is a question of understanding what the future holds for them; for others yet to test the waters, it is a question of what solution best suits them.
The IAMAI organized e-Business Summit is designed to address both groups. On the one hand, it will seek to address the challenges and opportunities that are likely to emerge in the near term to alert those who have already adopted this mode of business; on the other hand, it will also address the queries of those who need a little nudge to get on board.
This is a really cool idea. Not long after puny Pluto was stripped of its planethood, Janis Robinson started selling $25 "PLUTO IS A PLANET" T-shirts on the Internet. And not just Robinson, but scores of Web-savvy sellers hoping to support — and cash in — on Pluto's demotion to a "dwarf planet" bombarded the Internet hawking Pluto memorabilia worthy of a presidential candidate, from T-shirts and mugs to bumper stickers and mouse pads.
BigShoeBazaar.com has recorded the fastest growth rate among all indian e-commerce websites. In the recent survey by GOOGLE it was found that the on-line sales of BigShoeBazaar has been the most impressive among the indian e-commerce community. This shows the changing trend and the way Indian market widely accepting the hi-tech shopping.
NASSCOM’s e-biz India series on e-commerce will focus on the following areas:

Ajay just pointed me at a terrific blog about a new e-commerce solution, which allows people to source important business services very quickly and easily. It included a link to a fabulous graphic:

The folks at 37signals.com have released a book that encompasses their business philosophy that is very innovative and agile. The book is called Getting Real and is available at http://gettingreal.37signals.com It is a fairly quick read and is easy-to-read even for the non-technical readers.
This current month's issue of BusinessWeek also has a feature on 37signals and their approach to go from concept to released product in 3 and a half-months or less. I am a big advocate of their philosophy because it can be a great mantra for Indian IT start-ups. The book professes a low-cost and lean approach to starting up that enables you to move quickly and engage customers early. Other key points in the book include the technique of being customer-centric in your product design and starting at the market-end, not at the engineering-end. They also list pitfalls that web-application-developing entrepreneurs commonly run into, and suggest how those can be avoided.
Indian been having low penetration of internet , not with standing the low penetration. Indian travellers come out as more Web savvy than their peers in South Asia, Middle East and Africa (SAMEA) when it comes to researching and booking travel via the information superhighway, says a survey.

After a well spent day with Internet and Mobile luminaries on Day 1 of IAMAI - Digital Summit, Day 2 too was packed with exciting speakers with exciting content.
Following were the key highlights of Day 2
Session 1: Integrating Online into the Traditional Media Mix:
Online marketing has evolved in the US, which earns 50 percent of its revenue from online advertisements and sales. India, in comparison is yet to tap the opportunities available on online advertising and marketing. India is a very young country, and the marketers will have to tap the youth market to promote online advertising. There is a need for adequate broadband to help the online advertising industry grow, panelists of this session unanimously felt.
