Dell to use Ubuntu on Linux PCs

aruntomar's picture

Computer maker Dell has chosen Ubuntu as the operating system for its range of Linux computers for consumers.

Fans of Linux hope that the move will persuade more mainstream PC users to abandon Microsoft Windows and opt for the open-source operating system.

London-based firm Canonical, the lead sponsor of the Ubuntu project, will ensure the software works on Dell PCs.

Ubuntu includes software like office programs, e-mail, a browser, instant messaging software and a media player.

LGPL Samooha-S greets GPL Java

I was wondering how to express my excitement about Sun's recent announcement about Java! After some thoughts I decided to write it in my blog where I discuss about Samooha, the software that is making its own progress as a new generation business application platform for Small and Medium Enterprises.

Samooha introduces Game Changers’ Club

Wondering what’s Game Changers’ Club?

This millennium is all about openness and unification. It’s more about cooperation than competition. As Jonathan Schwartz mentioned rightly, innovation happens elsewhere! At Samooha we go a step further to say that we are entering an era of Open Innovation in Enterprise IT. Gone are those days where a select few used to sit in cubicles laid within the four walls and think and talk of innovation. R&D has now come into the Open. I believe innovation happens when the fear of failing is overcome. The humiliation faced during innovation is a thrill by itself and those who take it with grace and grit will emerge winners. They are then termed as game changers!!

Our efforts to find facts seem to be paying off! Recently, I personally came across a very interesting Technical Paper written by Researchers at a Technical University in Germany. Unfortunately, it is just a paper and I was not able to find anything in concrete form that can be evaluated as an offering.

This finding makes it a good reference to discuss during the Seminar on 19th May

The fact finding mission will go on till 15th May

Enterprise means bulky, expensive, dated and golf

This is a a very good blog entry with lot of interesting comments to read predicting that, "Enterprise will follow legacy to become a common insult among software creators and users. Enterprise software vendors’ costs will continue to rise while the quality of their software continues to drop. There will be a revolt by the people who use the software (they want simple, slim, easy to use tools) against the people who buy the software (they want a fat feature list that’s dressed to impress). This will cause enterprise vendors to begin hemorrhaging customers to simpler, lower cost solutions that do 80% of what their customers really need (the remaining 20% won’t justify the 10x-100x cost of the higher priced enterprise software “solutions”).
