NASSCOM Announces Roadmap for FY 2009

NASSCOM, the premier trade body representing the Indian IT-BPO
industry, today announced its roadmap for FY 2009 with key focus areas
outlined. These were shared at a press conference addressed by the
recently appointed Chairman - Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman - Pramod
Bhasin and NASSCOM President, Som Mittal.

MAT - New Tax for Indian Software and Outsourcing Industry in Union Budget 2006 2007

India's export-oriented enterprises such as in the thriving software outsourcing industry were brought back under the tax net in the annual federal budget unveiled on Wednesday. Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram proposed to extend minimum alternate tax (MAT) to firms claiming deductions under sections 10A and 10B of the Income Tax Act.

Now, they must pay the minimum tax, still lower than a full-fledged corporate income tax, practically seeing an end to their tax holiday status conferred years ago.

- Exports from STPI units (Software Technology Park in India) in Gujarat registered growth at a CAGR of 47% during last 5 years.
- The STPI in Gujarat has 295 approved units, accounting for 5% of the approved STPI units in India.
- Total sales (exports & domestic sales) of USD 41.5 Million in 2004-05 by Gujarat based STPI units.

Nihilent adds another center in Pune

One more center of Nihilent Technologies in Pune

Nihilent Technologies, a business consulting and solutions integration company, has opened a second development center in the city today.

The 40,000 sq ft center, which is in addition to Nihilent’s earlier facilities in Mumbai and Pune, has a capacity of 700 seats and would help the company realize its targeted headcount of 1000 people by mid 2007.

Wipro to set up base in Jaipur

To tap ample talent in the region and exploit business opportunities

Wipro Technologies announced that it has signed an MoU for 100 acres of land to set up its campus in Mahindra World City, here.

This facility will come up in two phases. Phase one will occupy 25 acres of land, which will have over one lakh sq.ft built up area and will have capacity to seat over 1000 employees.

Arun Nanda, executive director – Mahindra & Mahindra and president of Infrastructure Development Sector, said, “With proven capabilities of offering world class facilities for business retail, leisure, hospitality and residential housing, Mahindra World City, Jaipur will prove to be the ideal venue for Wipro’s regional aspirations.”
