Open web-platforms to drive developers

India today is arguably the land of the highest number of developer population in the world, said a recent study on the subject, "Open web-platforms for the developer community" by Zinnov Management Consulting, a leading Management Consulting firm.

Over the next 3 to 5 years more than 50 percent of the developer population, across technologies and platforms in the world, will be based out of India.

India’s open source future

Powering India’s economic growth requires a mix of software rights solutions, not proprietary ones alone.

Open Source Service Provider

We have launched a new version of our website. This can be accessed at www.veon.in

We are a team of highly motivated professionals working towards enabling businesses by implementing proven and matured open source enterprise applications in various domains. Our expertise on multiple products ensures that you get a product which matches your requirements with minimum customization.

We are entirely focused on SME segment because many companies are looking at software technologies that are user friendly, efficient and allow scalability of operations to meet the demands of tomorrow - solutions like an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relation Management (CRM) software that would move the organizations towards being more process defined and would normalize the business processes across the organization.

Open Source as a Software Service

“Open Source is said to be geeky. It certainly can be difficult to install and setup for the normal enduser. The open software scene was always belittled by the established vendors as not commercial enough to succeed, and because of it’s user unfriendliness.. But the development scene is slowly changing. More and more open source software projects are being set up to develop web based applications. While this does not mean that it is any easier to install and setup, it open now possibilities for SaaS - Software as a Service provider“

Why Google and Yahoo! can't be better open so...

One particular thing have bothered me always. I kept hearing Jeremy from Yahoo! and Chris from Google talk about how they don't open up code because "no one would understand our code, or be able to make use of it - it's too specific to a massive web company."

Oh, really? Who is to say? Shouldn't the market decide the relevance of code? Aren't Yahoo! and Google missing the point or, rather, conveniently looking past it? Open source isn't about beneficent companies giving code to the impoverished underclass. It's about working on code collaboratively within a community.

Folding@Home Project

I had written a blog about Google's "gene-catalogue" project some time ago.
In the blog I had mentioned about the Google Compute Project with its defunct website (as of the time of writing).
I found today that the Google Compute Project has taken inspiration from the Folding@Home project undertaken at Stanford University.

Samooha introduces Game Changers’ Club

Wondering what’s Game Changers’ Club?

This millennium is all about openness and unification. It’s more about cooperation than competition. As Jonathan Schwartz mentioned rightly, innovation happens elsewhere! At Samooha we go a step further to say that we are entering an era of Open Innovation in Enterprise IT. Gone are those days where a select few used to sit in cubicles laid within the four walls and think and talk of innovation. R&D has now come into the Open. I believe innovation happens when the fear of failing is overcome. The humiliation faced during innovation is a thrill by itself and those who take it with grace and grit will emerge winners. They are then termed as game changers!!

Here Comes a Google for Coders

For most people, open source is a synonym for free software. But for programmers, open source is about sharing code, building on the work of others and not having to reinvent the wheel -- at least, that's the ideal. In practice, code reuse remains very low, because it's often too hard for programmers to find relevant bits of code for their applications.

A new search engine for programmers promises to alleviate that problem by making it easier to find and share code. That in turn could increase programmers' productivity and give a fresh boost to the open-source movement.

Samooha Open Source - Todo or strike off?

In the changing world of business equations and dynamics we took an internal vote to go in favor of making Open Source, Samooha, the platform we put together for all size businesses to adopt in the present and future circumstances of changing connected world.

We had 80% vote in favor to Open Source but the 20% stopped us from moving forward. A caution we are currently taking are in the interest of all the stake holders. Here are a few links which one can take a look which speaks for and against.
