Must Read : 21 Year Old Firefox Founder Story and his new venture Parakey

ajaysanghani's picture

Blake Ross,a self taught coder, did internship at the age of 14 at Netscape, when Netscape had almost lost out to IE in the browser war. He then thought of a lean browser Firefox which has now been downloaded by 200 million people and roughly around 7 million people download it each month to discard the unsafe Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

After founding Firefox one of the biggest open source success stories, he recently unveiled his new venture Parakey, which aims to be the WebOS for masses. Parakey is a small application that you download which converts your computer into a local server, thus allowing you to manage your content easily be it documents, images, videos. This content can then be easily searched or shared on a remote server whenever you are online.

1.Turn Your Passion Into an Empire

Rachael Ray
Chef, Author, and Entrepreneur

You have to be open-minded when those early opportunities present themselves. Take advantage of them, whether they're going to make you a lot of money or not. I did 30 Minute Meals for five years on local television, and I earned nothing the first two years. Then I earned $50 a segment. I spent more than that on gas and groceries, but I really enjoyed making the show and I loved going to a viewer's house each week. I knew I enjoyed it, so I stuck with it even though it cost me.

Java SE 6 performance

rajesh's picture

In our Samooha project we were looking at improving performance of boot-up time for our heavy Swing application :-)

Guess what, we just moved to Java 6 to see if things are different and we got a bonus of 20 percent additional speed to our application boot-up time!!

Looks like Java 6 has done a good job until at least we are hit with any other blocks in the near future.

Startup Vs. Grad School

pshah's picture

Paul Graham recently gave a lecture at MIT, encouraging undergrad students to create their own startups after they graduate.
Reading this article made me think of the reasons why people pursue masters education:
1. More knowledge
2. Credentials that will help them get a good job and be able to progress in their careers
3. Opportunity to do research

For most people going to grad school is a step to secure their career with more credentials and knowledge. Offcourse people who want to pursue research do not come into this category. They have to go to grad school followed by a PhD.

Eight start-ups & tech ideas....the latest action -

Bix, to offer online performance contests, raises $7 million -- The start-up, previously known as 900 Seconds, wants to let companies (and others) tap into the American Idol craze -- giving them a way to create their own performance competitions online. The companies come up with sponsorship dollars, and they enjoy the positive branding while eager performers do their own thing. Mike Speiser, co-founder of Epinions.com, has raised $6.77 million from Sutter Hill Ventures, Trinity Ventures and individual investors including ex-Yahoo Geoff Ralston, according to Om Malik. Still in testing mode, so you won't be able to see how it works until it launches -- expected soon
