Barcamp Pune was one of the better barcamps I attended this year, it had the right kind of energy, lots of new startups and professionals working in startups, rich conversations, people openly sharing and contributing to other people's ideas.

Personally enjoyed giving a presentation on Monetizing Knowledge and look at what is beyond jobs and business, on how your spare time and knowledge can be shared for profit, rather than just consuming knowledge or wasting available time.

Barcamp Movement is growing at a phenomenal pace worldover, specially in the geekworld.

Barcamp is spreading across India in a space of few months, it is amazing at the speed at which India is taking on the movement of Barcamp, symbolic really of the power of people, it will be interesting to see Barcamp spread beyond technology and hope it brings together people from all walks of life to create amazing events.

I attended the first Barcamp in Delhi on 4th March, really enjoyed, and subsequently we have seen Barcamp events in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. This weekend on 13th May, we will see an interesting event happen at the IIT Campus, Mumbai. Mohit Pawar from Hyderabad has done a good job of putting things together in Mumbai, Sponsors have been rushing in, and infact Mohit is having to refuse large sums of sponsor money thrown at, to accomodate more varied sponsors and is only taking small amounts of money from sponsors.

Check out the new initiative to run a Hyderabad centric Technology blog. A channel to propagate technology developments and events relevant to Hyderabad. This was a by product of the ongoing planning for the BarCamp on Web 2.0 (due on April 8th). When we tried to find a simple mechanism to notify the event to the active net-prowlers & bloggers, we found no simple place to do this. No single place that had a good reach. Some of us that were actively working on the BarCamp planning, decided that we should go create this channel by ourselves. And hopefully we can propagate this and make it a technology events portal for Hyderabad. This will be accompanied by a technology blogroll that we are setting up in Hyderabad. (Look out for an announcement on this).

I had ranted earlier about how cool barcamp would be and my not being able to go to Delhi to attend it, since then a few of us here in hyderabad got together and thought of getting a barcamp organized here in hyderabad and voila we have BarcampHyderabad now :D. We originally thought of having it in the third week of march but it has got now finalized to April 8th. It is also great to know that Barcamp Chennai ha got announced and is held on that same day. If it where on some other day I could have thought of hopping in there as well :)
I was asked offline by someone as to what is the etymology behind barcamp. Following is what I had gathered on gigaom many months ago when barcamp was getting born.
Tim O Reilly who has built is his vast publishing empire based on geek love hosts (for business reasons) once a year invite only event called FooCamp. Every year Tim would invite some alpha geeks in various technical field and let them talk about their field and provide a common platform for them to interact with each other.
