Tenth Telecom Seminar at SITM Day 1.Some Snapshots

SITM organised their Telecom seminar by the name of Communique which was held at Symbiosis Vishwabhawan on 7'th and 8'th of Oct.
The theme of the event was 'Enhancing Vision for growth across the telecom panorama'.
Event's Chief Guest was TRAI Chief Mr. Nripendra Misra who dwelt on the major concerns staring the Indian Telecom industry main being the Rural-urban divide,Consumer Issue,Interconnection issue and the highly debated spectrum issue.He also lauded the efforts of the SITM students for doing excellent research on predicting the telecom landscape for the year.
Earlier in the day the students presented their research report for the telecom sector in the next year in the form of Prevision 07 which I must say was greatly researched and was the highlight of the day.
Later in the day we had a session by Head of Corp. Strategy Mr Srinivas Rao on how VSNL managed its transformation from a govt monopoly to a nimble competitive force today.
Then we had a session by Mr Rahul Singh(Director APAC equity research Citigroup) who focussed on the growth prospects of Indian Telecom and analyzed the Indian Wireless Industry in general.
Then we had another informative session by Miss Nagamani Murthy( VP,ICEN Wipro Tech) who talked about the strategies for business excellence of Telcos and what role wipro is playing to cater to all the needs of this vibrant industry.
Then Mr Nadeem Khan(head,presales telecom,TCS)informed us about treating telecom not as a vertical but as a horizontal and analysed the various tech and service trends of the telecom sector.
Then we had the CTO of Bharti Telesoft telling us about the path-breaking work done by his company in the telecom services in the VAS sector to increase the ARPU and overall margins for them.
Then we had MR Pravin Agarwal(Director Sterlite Optical Tech)talking about how India is becoming R&D and manufacturing hub and the role played by Sterlite Optical in achieving it.
Lastly for the day we had the panel discussion on the topic 'Strategies for business excellence of telcos:Being competitive in the wireless industry' which informed us about the various issues at hand and how to deal with them and be the best in the business.
All in all a highly informative first day of the seminar with some good business networking opportunities.
