Nearly 90% of Internet users turn to search engines such as Google and Yahoo to find what they are looking for online, and searching for information ranks as the second most popular activity online after email. In fact, a web site draws a majority of its traffic from search engine referrals.
Not surprisingly, an increasing number of Indian businesses are waking up to the potential of promoting their web sites, products and services through search engines.
As the number of internet users in India explodes - the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) estimates that there will be 42m users online by March 2007 against the 37m in September 2006 - few marketers can ignore search engines.
