Dell Computers to Come with Linux

After all the speculation, Dell has announced it will start selling computers with pre-installed Linux distributions instead of Microsoft Windows.

Reportedly, the idea is born out of IdeaStorm, Dell's all new Web site that was launched on Feb 16, and has since experienced a flood of requests, with users asking for Dell NBs and desktops loaded with pre-installed Linux distributions plus the open source alternative to Microsoft Office - OpenOffice.org.

Is Linux gaining popularity or Windows loosing popularity?

Let's guess who gains the popularity.

The new team of leaders at Dell Inc. is weighing whether to allow customers to opt for PCs with the Linux operating system instead of the default Windows after thousands of users voted for the idea on a company blog.

The idea appeared Friday on a company-hosted blog called Dell Idea Storm. CEO Michael Dell unveiled the blog Feb. 16 as part of his effort to reinvigorate the struggling company. Dell said he hoped to use the blog to collect users' feedback and improve customer service.
