Corporate employees on an average spend 60 minutes on social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook in office hours, leading to loss of productivity, a survey said.“Close to 12.5% of productivity of human resource in corporate sector is misappropriated each day since a vast majority of them while away their time accessing social networking sites during office hours,” industry body Assocham said in a survey.

Social networking has generally been discouraged in the workplace, with many corporate IT departments blocking access to sites like Facebook and MySpace due to privacy concerns. But these efforts are becoming increasingly futile as our lives continue to converge with social networks, analysts at a Gartner symposium said yesterday. Plus, social networking may even help workers “feel valued, a part of a community, and earn the respect of peers.”

Twitter today took a step toward making it easier for users to organize and manage all of the updates their contacts post.The microblogging phenomenon said that it's testing a new service called Lists with a small subset of its users. In a blog post, Lists project lead Nick Kallen said it's designed to help Twitter users store and manage lists of accounts they follow.
