But Hunter Walk still thinks of it as an underdog.For Walk, director of product management at YouTube, the competition is not other Web sites: It’s TV. “Our average user spends 15 minutes a day on the site,” he said. “They spend about five hours in front of the television. People say ‘YouTube is so big,’ but I really see that we have a ways to go.”

YouTube is considering offering users the option to pay for subscriptions in a bid to encourage more media companies to license premium TV shows and movies to the popular online video site, a senior executive said. YouTube, which is owned by Internet search giant Google Inc, is already known to have held talks with several major movie studios about renting movies.

Revenues at Google Inc's online video site YouTube are continuing to rise despite the poor global economy, YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley said on Tuesday."I can't comment on numbers but we had two spectacular quarters," Hurley told a news conference in Jerusalem marking the launch of Israeli President Shimon Peres's new YouTube channel. "The economy is having some rough times but our costs continue to go down and our revenues continue to go up.

Google on Thursday opened a window for users to see what records the Internet giant keeps regarding their activities at YouTube, Gmail, Reader and other accounts .Dashboard summarizes data kept about use of more than 20 of the California-based firm's services, according to a blog post by Google engineer Alma Whitten, product manager Yariv Adan, and vice president Marissa Mayer."The Dashboard summarizes data for each product that you use and provides you direct links to control your personal settings," the message said.
