Set up an investment fund which invests in Indian stockmarkets in 1997. Survived quite a few rocky years and now doing a little better as India is taking off and could grow strongly for the next thirty years. see www.invil.mu.

Strongly interested in economic development and education. Involved with Pratham which is a non-profit organisation that has a superb model for providing low cost education for poor children in India. The organisation uses volunteers in poor communities (mainly women) who have some education to teach young children. Has built up a network of 10,000 volunteers across 12 states who teach over 250,000 children a year. Over a million children have been educated by Pratham since 1994. The volunteers are very dynamic and determined to succeed despite difficult conditions and are the main reason for the success of the organisation. The cost of providing the education is remarkably low -just STG 5.00 (USD 10.00) per child per year. This is social entrepreneurship at its best. Just come back from a hectic three week trip to India. Things are beginning to improve there in so many ways but there is a long way to go.
