Why Indians contribute less to OpenSource?

This is not another debate, please. I am keen to learn from experts as to why there is not as much activity in this space?

We are trying to learn and apply some techniques to encourage Open Source Development (and not just evangelising OSS and using it) in India and other developing countries.

In this podcast interview with Kamla Bhatt, Mahesh Murthy talks about VC funding trends and investment opportunities in India. Mahesh has recently launched Seed Fund for early stage startups, and his fund amounts upto $10 million.

How much money is needed in the seed money for start-up in India? Mahesh says that in the initial or the seed round about $500-800k should get the start-up going. Indian start-ups do not need $2-3 million, the typical amount that US-based start-ups require at the seed fund stage he points out.

Its My First Posting at IT Vidya . i have been tracking this site for a while but can't manage to squezze some time out of my schedule to do some serious posting here . iniitally i was at loss about deciding on topic to write about . fianlly i decided to talk about a topic which is very close to my heart and a lot of folks in Internet space can identify with . It's about Mobile Web Application and why its not been able to take -off properly in india . here is my take of Problems with mobile web . Hope you will like it.
