Why Only IT ?

Hello friends

I understand that it sounds quite uncomfortable to listen why IT but before understanding the topic I would like to apologize in advance to all those readers whom are not in consent with me.

Now days ask to any executive or consultant that what is the solution of any problem 99 percent of them would say IT. Does IT is becoming so strong that it can play the role of god in the society. Earlier society was much easier to live and cherish. now just take a simple example : A person not having a cell phone is treated as an awkward or rustic. even sometimes only having a cell phone wont work you must have a latest one. For an executive having a blackberry is must. IT companies are paying much higher than any other sectors and hiring in numerous amount so definitely it s becoming harder and harder for other sectors to get quality workforce. China is a manufacturing hub for decades but they also realized that they must be a service sector player also so they are improving in that point also but does India is also thinking on the same way ? It is really ridiculous that 60 percent of Indians (In agriculture sector) are generating hardly 20 percent of India’s revenue and 14 percent of people(IT sector) are contributing almost 51 percent. I never oppose the development but I oppose the unilateral development. Just think about a scenario : Currently we are getting 40-50 percent of IT and ITes business from US and 20-25 percent from European country tomorrow they pass a bill in their parliament that none of the IT services will be bought from India.(It has already happened In the time of Pokharan in 98 and after the 9/11 incident) then what will happen to our budding IT industry definitely millions of people whom are living a lavish life due to IT will come to the position of being starved and in current political situation it can occur to any time.
We need to realize that omen and must have possible cure else those days are not far away when India will be once again standing where it was after post independence era.

1) You sound very much pleasant to my ears and I believe we are not the only people around to feels the same.

2) Well this is the general perception of the people around and it’s not only limited to ‘executives’ or ‘consultants’. I think, one of the reason could be that lack of understanding as to what is IT (Information Technology)?

3) Being tech. savvy is something personal and I don’t see any reason as to how could this be linked to IT. The buying power of the consumers is increasing not because of the heavy paycheck but because of easy disposal of ‘Credit’. Every thing that’s for sale could be bought in ‘Installment’ and they don’t discriminate on the grounds of sector in which he/she is working.

4) Both China and India are consumer based economy the only difference that I could see is the efficiency and farsightedness of a very BIG organization called “Government”. Here in our country “Cricket” is a big “Issue” and future of the “Country” is a game (no offence).

5) The data presented by you is really very impressive, but I would say it’s incomplete. There’s a big difference between revenue and gain. A sector might be generating good amount of revenue but not in terms of gain. Say for example an average IT guy spends good amount of his earning in buying commodities those are ‘Imported’ or dine/lunch in restaurants who preferable don’t serve ‘Indian’ food, so who do you think is earning?

6) You are very much true and I couldn’t agree with anything more on this, but the problem is the ‘Thought’. Though it’s been more than half a century that we are independent, we still love to be told what we need to do.

You have raised a very important point.

I agree to your point that political situation is very unstable right now. I have been arguing this since long within my IT friends.

Indian IT secter is too much dependent upon US, and any change in outsourcing policy with affect every IT establishment.

But recently i see a changing trend. Indian businesses are accepting IT - i mean common people are getting IT savvy - this results in big demand for IT related services in India itself.

We too many buddying Entrepreneurs, India is certainly heading towards better.

Ajay is organising Conference on "Technopreneurship : Empowering Budding Entrepreneurs" to be held on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th September 2006 in Pune. More and more conference like these ones are needed to uplift the young minds.
