Wicamp
I'am sure you all must be wondering what's wi in the Wicamp, I'll walk you through the Wicamp, that happened yesterday. Wicamp - actually meaning We-camp, and also Wi- Wipro Innovation Camp was an unconference where most of the minds congregated to discuss, share, understand about Innovation.
This camp was conducted at the Wipro Campus in Pune, and there were about 100 attendees. It was a pleasure to meet and hear from the Wipro, Pune Division Head, Mrs.Sharda. Also there were few people who presented themselves, of which I'll discuss below in brief.
Pavan Soni, is an Innovation Evangelist from Wipro who had organised the camp. he is a great blogger and an even great event conducter. After successfully conducting Wi-camps at Bangalore and Hyderabad. This time he had organised it in Pune. He kept the attendees spellbound, by showing us an innovative video.
Here is a brief of the topics that were covered.
1.From 8,000 to 80,000.
This was the first topic that was presented by Mayur. He discussed about the 4 factors that make a company think differently and work differently. Organizations Agnostic Prescription, Excel all boundaries (from the social aspect) were some of the points that were discussed. According to him innovation is doing things differently but to do things. Lets me start with what Azim Premji says about Innovation: Innovation and creativity are very critical for the country's growth. The main challenge for todays companies is to cope with the growing stack of information. The only way to stand out today for companies is to innovate themselves and re-define things. Actually many a times when companies are small they are pretty innovative and have a clear focus, but when they expand and stretch out somehow this focus dithers and to innovate becomes much more challenging. So for an innovative company like Wipro, the Journey from 8,000 employees to 80,000 was not easy.
2.From Ideas to Dollars
Everybody can come up with ideas, but to capitalise on it is something that turns it. Idea's can be generated but they also need to be executed efficiently so that they take a tangible form. Any thought cannot materialise successfully unless and until a lot of hard work goes in. Even Google and Apple being the most innovative companies have put in a lot of hard work to come to the position where they stand today.
3.Titan Watch company Innovedge Initiative
Titan in their organization have created a Group called "Innovedge" that purely means innovation edge. This group just churns out ideas and innovations and then help communicate it to other SBU's and division to implement it rightly.
4.Rang-De
www.rangde.org is a non-profit peer to peer micro lending platform. This team had presented about the future and vision of rang de. In India banks do not provide loan to the lowest strata of the society since there is no assurance of repaying. Therefore rang de came up with this novel innovative idea to create a platform of money lenders and Buyers.
5.Mahindra and Mahindra
The leader, Anand Mahindra calls his company not a company but a Federation. This is by far one of the most innovative comapanies that India has. They have won the most innovative product award for 2 of their brands - Shaan and Scorpio. How they reached to this stage and acheived so much was worth listening to.
There also was a team which spoke about the every possible way a business could fail. An idea germinates, it is concieved, but the passion to make it a success can sometimes be detrimental to your own business. So look at these points
a. Evaluate the 10 best ways in which your business can go wrong.
b. Do not just go after alloting Equity to anyone and everyone. Let a major chunk of the Equity be with the leader.
If you have an Idea and you want to communicate it, you can also write to innovation.wipro@wipro.com
and Good luck, may be it could be taken.
