Wireless data cards to be much cheaper

Good news for people planning to access Internet on the move.

According to the Budget Notification, excise duty has been completely waived on data cards from 16% to Nil.

Below is the extract from the Budget Speech

146. There are a number of products which are goods of mass
consumption. There is also the need to have tax parity on similar
goods. Taking into account requests from a number of industries, I
propose to reduce the excise duty from 16 per cent to nil on a few
items including composting machines, wireless data cards, packaged
coconut water, tea and coffee mixes, and puffed rice.

Hopefully these data cards now will come to a affordable price point of around RS. 2000/- and maybe they can make it free with

an annual tarriff subscription. Reliance, Airtel, Tata, hope you announce the reduced prices as soon as possible.
